What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

Where our website has a contact form you will need to complete input fields that enable us to identify you and deal with your query.  The website does not retain any information.  Your details are retained by us indefinitely in order to deal with any future queries that you might have.

Cookies

When you visit our site we will place cookies on your website browser.  These cookies – small text files – do not identify you to us but retain certain information to enable our website to operate correctly.  They also help us with analytics – see below.  If you do not want cookies stored on your computer browser then you need to make changes to your browser.  See our cookie page for more details.

Analytics

We use either Statcounter.com or Google Analytics to help us understand more about visitors to our site.  The information collected is anonymised and cannot be used to identify you personally.  Among other information it tells us:

  • the type of device used to view our website
  • the size of screen viewed on
  • the pages looked at
  • the time spent looking
  • the referral source if any

Statcounter’s privacy policy can be seen here at https://statcounter.com/about/legal/#privacy and Google’s can be seen here at https://privacy.google.com/#

Who we share your data with

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.  Other than that your data is not shared elsewhere and we do not sell your data to any third party.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.  HMRC require that we keep all records for six years.  Should you require the information held then the law allows us to charge £10.00 for that service.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

We will disclose your information where required to do so by law.

Privacy Notice Updates

From time to time this notice will be updated as further and better information comes about or as the law changes in respect to data protection.  Visitors to this site should check back at regular intervals in order to be fully aware of the latest position.
